Fireworks laws hard to enforce

COLUMBIA - Columbia police responded to more than 50 calls to investigate fireworks disturbances over Fourth of July weekend, one of which left a Columbia officer severely burned.
City Manager Paul Boyer said very little can be done about the violations because the city laws governing fireworks are virtually unenforceable and fireworks are readily available.

City of Columbia proposes four-cent property tax increase.

A proposition to increase City of Columbia property taxes by four cents will be voted on at their next meeting.
The tax rate would rise from $1.08 to $1.12 per $100 of assessed property value if Columbia City Council members approve the city manager’s recommendation.
