GM to cut workers

SPRING HILL - UAW Local 1853 Chairman Mike Herron said no immediate changes are expected at the GM Spring Hill Manufacturing plant as a result of GM’s announcement it plans to improve its bottom line by laying off salaried workers and making cuts in its truck production.

In addition to cutting back its truck production and workforce, GM said it also plans to suspend its dividend and to borrow $2 billion to $3 billion to get through the present downturn in the U.S. auto market.
