County School Board candidate disqualified

A candidate running for school board would not be able to serve if elected because he has moved out of state, Maury County’s administrator of elections said Thursday.

Dwayne Eugene Kelley, who is running for the District 6s chool board seat, moved to Michigan, according to a mail forwarding label and a woman who answered his cell phone.

Kelley is running against Rob Burcham, who owns B’s Tees clothing and sign design company.

Todd Baxter, administrator of elections, said Kelley’s name will still be on the ballot. If Kelley was elected, the seat would be considered vacant because school board members must reside in the district they are running for to hold the position, Baxter said.

Early voting starts July 18. Election Day is Aug. 7.
