City to narrow candidates for police chief

COLUMBIA - More than 80 applications were received in June for the outgoing police chief’s seat, city officials said Wednesday.

Police Chief Barry Crotzer will officially retire in October, but because of accrued vacation time, he will likely step down this month, City Personnel Director Kate Collier said. Crotzer has been chief since 2002.
