Maury County School Board Cuts Books Keeps Football Field for Spring Hill

Maury County School Board members left plans for athletic facilities at a proposed middle school untouched Thursday but slashed hundreds of thousands of dollars budgeted for library books, furniture and computers.

Local neuter program receives state grant

MAURY COUNTY - The “Gotta Spay To Play” neuter program in Maury County has been awarded the low-income subsidy Animal Friendly Grant for 2008-2009.
It is the only neuter program in Maury County to receive this year’s grant.

Skunk puts damper on summer fun at YMCA

COLUMBIA - An unexpected visitor created a potentially stinky situation Tuesday at the YMCA pool in Columbia.
Lifeguard Melissa King said she saw a skunk run into a tent used by a hot-dog vendor near the pool. The skunk was spotted about noon, and up to 50 people were present at the time.

Bicentennial fireworks in jeopardy

COLUMBIA - The city’s fire chief said Columbia’s Bicentennial Celebration fireworks display this month could be in danger of being canceled.

COLUMBIA - Tracy Bradford wanted to get her 11-year-old son, Dakota, the perfect gift for his birthday. She was surprised when she found out she was getting a brand new computer, which will ultimately become Dakota’s present.
