City of Columbia proposes four-cent property tax increase.

A proposition to increase City of Columbia property taxes by four cents will be voted on at their next meeting.

The tax rate would rise from $1.08 to $1.12 per $100 of assessed property value if Columbia City Council members approve the city manager’s recommendation.

City Manager Paul Boyer told The Columbia Daily Herald the four-cent increase would maintain current city government expenditures, but would not allow for expanding the city’s departments.

Boyer sent out a memo that he recommended a 53-cent property tax increase to cover departmental requests he deemed important for the future.

Columbia City Council members will discuss the item at their 5 p.m. Tuesday meeting. Their voting session will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

  1. Some people who say they have some acquaintance with Columbia City Manager Paul Boyer comment at http://politics.nashvillepost.com/2008/05/05/breaking-even/.

  2. Does Paul Boyer claim FL as his residence? When did he get hired? Why was he fired from the city in FL?

  3. Joe, if you will click on the link I posted above, you will see that more apparent victims have weighed in. As for why Boyer was fired in Lake Worth, Florida, the Palm Beach Post newspaper story I link to on the blog that the link above takes you to says Boyer was fired for ineffective communication and project management.
