Economic pandering: the three card Monty
It could not be a better time for the Democrats to elect a president. We are in throes of an expensive and unnecessary war. The GOP spends, well, like Democrats; and also refuses to cut Federal spending. Oil prices are high and home prices are down. George W. Bush is so unpopular now that I am not entirely sure that he has been invited to his daughter’s upcoming wedding. So, all I wonder is just how the Dems will screw this one up. Rest assured they will.
Since taking the Senate and House January, 4th 2007 and promising to lower oil prices, the Democrats have presided over a 115% increase since making that promise. Oil hit an all time high of $120 a barrel this week and was $55 a barrel just two years ago when the Democrats took over. Another “Mission Accomplished” from our politicians. If only we could fuel our cars on lies and impossible political rhetoric, then we would all be driving all we want at no cost.
It is always funny to me for people to take the presupposition that politicians can do anything about any economic matter except make it worst. It is an unchallenged false premise that a President or any politicians can do anything about prices of a world wide commodity such as oil. If I ever get bored with business, for amusement I start reading what political candidates are saying about the economy and somehow implicitly saying that it is in their power to fix what ails us. Their assertions that they can indeed do something about the economy always goes unchallenged by the media.
Gas prices Presidents might have a more focused view on the costs that everyday Americans face if they had to pay to fill up Air Force one with fuel once in awhile. The reality is that they can do little; prices are determined by supply and demand. They always have been, they always will be.
Realize that government does not produce any thing; it only gets in business’ way. The only thing government produces, is more government and they taking money from the most productive part of society while vilifying them to do so. As my hero P. J. O’Rourke said, “The mystery of government is not how Washington works but how to make it stop.”
The Democrats who refused to allow drilling for oil in a small piece of Alaska call ANWR and have not allowed a new oil refinery or nuclear power plant to be built in 12 years, somehow have gotten the upper hand in the spin game as to who would be better for lowering prices. Even when asked why they have not changed their positions on the above, Nancy Pelosi dismissed this confrontation and said that none of these ideas would produce cheap energy for 8 years. Which is exactly what she and the Dems said 8 years ago. Just how short-sighted can politicians be? More telling, just how dumb do they think we are?
And, now we are left to vote for two Democrats candidates that profess “Change”, having both been in the U.S. Senate for a total of 12 years. Obama wants change but somehow could not change his racists and delusional minister for over twenty years, Reverend Wright. In fact after hearing that Obama is cutting loose his twenty plus year relationship with the person who married him over cold, mean, hateful and insulting comments, Bill Clinton said he is going to look to see if he can do that too.
To Obama’s credit, he is not stooping to Hillary’s silly gas tax holiday that she has advanced, calling it a “gimmick.” Maybe because he did not think of it, but Obama sees Hillary populist gas tax cut that saves you 30 cents a day for a month or so. She further plans to take the money from oil company profits. Just like Cuba does; and how are they doing? If you ever wonder why the USA loses jobs and companies, look no further than Hillary trying to take their legally earned money like this.
I beg politicians, you can continue your meaningless populist pandering to the least intelligent and most expedient among us. You can keep the lobbyist perks, your big offices and private jets. But please get out of the way and let those greedy capitalist pigs you so vilify and tax to do what they do best: Bring the American people the products that they want in the most efficient manner and at the lowest market competitive prices.
